You
can't resist his offer and you follow him to his organ. Sitting on the
instrument is a large leather bound music book. You notice how carefully
Erik handles the score, as though he's afraid a sudden jerk might ruin
it. He shows you sheet after sheet of handwritten music. It's obvious that
he's very proud of it. In fact, he's really conceited about it.
"This is real music," he says.
He begins to play and is soon submerged in it and forgets all
about you. The music is truly beautiful, almost unearthly. It was this
very music that compelled Christine to take off the Phantom's mask. It
has the same effect on you. In a dreamlike trance you reach out for the
mask. You can feel the black satin. Surprisingly, it comes off easily.
You've just made a tragic mistake! Unfortunately, you won't live
to regret it!
